We visit Breckenridge at least three times a year. I’m often asked about the best places to stay, but I can only recommend what we’ve personally experienced as a family of four traveling alone and with a bigger group. There’s plenty of lodging in and around Breckenridge, so you won’t find yourself short on options. Here are a few of our recommendations based on personal experience.
IN THE SUMMER…
We typically visit Breckenridge in the summer with another family, so we need extra space to sprawl out. We use VRBO/Home Away to book all of our summer lodging and we’ve always been happy with where we’ve stayed. One year we stayed on Mt. Baldy and loved our views of the ten mile range. It was heaven. It looks like that house is no longer available for rent, but that area (right off Mt. Baldy road) is awesome.
When you’re searching in VRBO, you can search specific locations/neighborhoods within an area. Mt. Baldy, Peak 7, Peak 8, and Blue River are usually where we look when booking.
We stayed at THIS HOUSE a couple of summers ago and loved it. There were 8 of us…4 kids/4 adults…and it was the PERFECT space. The house had three floors and the kids all slept and played on the bottom floor & loved having their own space. The bottom floor hosted a pool table, ping pong table, and foosball so the kids were never out of something to do when we were hanging around the house. They also loved taking advantage of the hot tub as well as walking down to the river in the mornings and late afternoons. Spacious, clean, and a perfect place for the eight of us. We also love this area (Blue River) as it’s only about a 5 minute drive to and from the Main Street and located right on the river.
We stayed at THIS HOUSE in summer 2019 and couldn’t have been happier. This house is actually on the same road as the one above and like I said before, we absolutely LOVE this area. When we stayed here, there were three families (12 of us total) and we had more than enough room to sprawl out without feeling like we were all on top of each other. This house is situated on the river and it is absolutely STUNNING. One of our favorites! Three floors, five bedrooms, an incredible deck and patio area…everything we could’ve wanted and more. We enjoyed walking up the hill behind the house to take in the views of the lake right behind it. The kids loved being able to feed the fish, relaxing in the hot tub, and playing in the river. There were no burn bans in effect when we visited, so we spent one night around the campfire roasting hot dogs & s’mores and listening to music while we all sat around and talked. If we’re ever in the area with a big group again, we’ll definitely be staying here. It was absolute PERFECTION and we would absolutely recommend this spot…especially if you’re traveling in a bigger group.
RIVER MOUNTAIN LODGE
We absolutely LOVE this spot! River Mountain Lodge is located in the heart of Breckenridge on the Blue River. This is such a convenient spot for just about everything you’d want to do here in town. A quick walk to shopping and restaurants with all the comforts of a condo. If you’re here during ski season, you can easily walk to Peak 9 or walk to the gondola to ski Peaks 7 & 8. The property is well-maintained and the service is excellent. If there’s any way you can snag a room with a river view, we highly recommend! There’s nothing better than opening the windows and listening to the river run while you’re in the room. The little patios are also a perfect place to rest and take in the incredible views. River Mountain Lodge is the perfect spot for the four of us to stay when visiting in the summer and we loved visiting the Castaways Cove (tiki bar & restaurant) on-site.
FALL & WINTER LODGING
ONE SKI HILL PLACE
One Ski Hill Place is located on Peak 8 and is an incredible ski-in/ski-out resort. We’ve stayed here in both the fall and winter and can’t say enough good things about it. The rooms are immaculate and well kept. It’s a lot less crowded in the fall, but the convenience of this lodging during ski season is awesome (especially if you’re skiing). One Ski Hill offers complimentary shuttle service to and from town and we always take advantage of that. We love being able to park and never having to worry about it again until we leave to go home. The T-Bar is a great little bar/restaurant located on-site…great for après cocktails. There’s also a private bowling lane on-site that can be rented out by the half-hour and it’s a great way to pass a little time with friends and family.
CRYSTAL PEAK LODGE
Crystal Peak Lodge is located on Peak 7 and is also another incredible ski-in/ski-out resort (on the same road as One Ski Hill Place). Crystal Peak is located right next to Grand Lodge (they share the same slopes). We’ve never stayed at Grand Lodge, but hear there are more kid friendly activities there than Crystal Peak. We personally love Crystal Peak in the winter because of the convenience and proximity to skiing. My husband and boys ski blues & blacks which are the primary slopes on Peak 7. I’m a green skier so I just hop on the gondola located on property and take the quick trip over to Peak 8 to ski there. Great rooms, great service, and access to complimentary shuttle service as well. Highly recommend!
MOUNTAIN THUNDER LODGE
Mountain Thunder Lodge is located in the heart of Breckenridge and only a couple blocks walk to the Main Street area. We absolutely LOVE this spot. We’ve stayed in both the rooms and the condos on-site and have had great experiences here. There’s a free shuttle service available that will take you to town if you prefer not to drive and there’s also a tunnel on-site connecting the lodge to a parking lot that you can walk across to hop on the gondola that will take you up to Peaks 7 & 8. Great location, awesome service. We always recommend this spot when asked.
MAIN STREET STATION
Main Street Station is located right off of Main Street and sits at the base of Peak 9. A great location any time of the year as this area is home to shops, restaurants, and skiing all on-site. The great thing about Main Street Station is it’s proximity to all the downtown restaurants and shops. An easy walk from your room to everything in town. We had a great experience staying here in the fall, but haven’t stayed in the winter. It’s usually booked completely full during ski season, so you’ll want to plan in advance and make your reservations accordingly. Great accommodations and excellent location…definitely recommend.
Again, not an exhaustive list of accommodations, but it’s a great place to start if you’re looking!
