I’m not sure why I waited to so long to dive into Book Lovers, by Emily Henry. This one has been on my TBR forever and the only regret I have about this one is not reaching for it sooner. I LOVED IT!!!!
Nora, a literary agent, and her sister, Libby, head to Sunshine Falls, NC for the month of August on a sister trip. While in the small town of Sunshine Falls, Nora bumps into Charlie, her professional rival. This one is an enemies to lovers trope, so you can probably guess how it all ends, but it’s what’s in between the first and last page that absolutely had me smitten.
Right off the bat, let me tell you that I’m a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan. If I could transport myself to the picturesque town of Stars Hollow and live there forever, I would. And Book Lovers was definitely reminiscent of both. Witty banter, great dialogue, small town charm….everything I love in a rom com. If you like Gilmore Girls, I think you’ll LOVE Book Lovers.
For me, Charlie and Nora were the perfect match. I loved everything about them both individually as well as a couple. I love the way their love story unfolded…Picasso! Besides the obvious budding love story between Nora and Charlie, I adored the relationship between Nora and her sister Libby, too. It added a layer of depth to the story I wasn’t expecting. Realistic, complicated, honest. I loved their relationship.
I appreciated that Nora didn’t have to change anything about herself to get the ending she wanted. Independent, motivated, ambitious…none of those were painted as character flaws as they often are when a woman is successful in her career. I loved that she was able to maintain everything important to her and gain a love she didn’t want to lose. I love that none of it came easy either…hard decisions had to be made and that, for me, was realistic.
I can’t say enough about this book. It was everything I hoped it would be and then some. I finished it in two days and savored every last word. I didn’t want it to end. I’ll definitely be reaching for this one again…especially when I feel like I need a big, warm hug. Well done, Ms. Henry! BRAVO!
