What is Blend to Read?
Blend to Read is a set of independent phonics activities designed for students to use independently as skill reinforcement OR as an intervention activity.
What phonics concepts are covered in this resource?
In this edition of Blend to Read, students will focus on blending phonemes in CVC (short vowel) words.
How will this resource benefit both me AND my students?
Blend to Read includes 5 short vowel/CVC instructional video files that teach your students HOW to blend phonemes to make words (one video per short vowel). This video can be viewed in a whole group setting (to help you with lesson instruction) AND students can also scan the included Scan & Learn QR codes to re-watch the videos independently for reinforcement. The videos are perfect to view prior to engaging in the independent centers included. The activities in this resource also include audio QR codes for self-checking to ensure independent success.
How can I ensure that my students are doing these independent activities correctly?
Each piece of the Blend to Read activities includes audio QR codes for self-checking. Students can complete the activity, scan the QR code, and listen to my voice as I blend each phoneme, say the word, and use the word in a sentence. These 10 second audio clips will provide both reassurance for work done correctly and provide struggling learners with a resource for correcting their work.

Of course! Blend to Read includes…
*5 Short Vowel Video Files – one 3.5 minute video file per short vowel introduces the vowel, vowel sound, and provides students with opportunities to repeat & practice. Videos instruct students HOW to blend phonemes to make new words and show several different examples of phoneme blending (with matching pictures)
* Blend & Draw – Students will blend the phonemes to read the word and draw the matching picture. A self-checking QR code is included on each Blend & Draw strip. The QR code will redirect students to a 10 second audio file of my voice blending the phonemes, reading the word, and using the word in a sentence.
*Blend & Cover – Students will blend the phonemes to read the word and cover the matching picture. A self-checking QR code is included on each Blend & Cover card. The QR code will redirect students to a 10 second audio file of my voice blending the phonemes, reading the word, and using the word in a sentence.
*Listen ,Blend, & Color- 15 Listen, Blend, & Color printables are included as assessment opportunities. Students will scan the QR code and listen to a 3.5 minute audio file of my voice blending phonemes. Students will listen, blend the sounds, and color the matching picture accordingly. Teacher answer keys for each printable are included.
