Spelling menus and choices are nothing new to teaching. They’re a great resource to keep kids engaged in learning while giving them a sense of autonomy. In keeping with the theme, the spelling sticks in this packet are meant for just that…encouraging kids to take ownership over their learning while giving them a fun way to choose.

I keep my sticks in a container in the sight word center (close to the word wall). Students can choose a spelling stick and then follow the instructions and visuals to complete the task. Printable recording sheets corresponding with the spelling sticks are included for some of the tasks. The tasks without printable recording sheets can be completed on a recording medium of your students choosing…dry erase sleeve, construction paper, mini booklets. etc.

Spelling Sticks not only make a great sight word/spelling/vocabulary center, but they’re also perfect for your fast finishers, too!
